Scott leaves, Phildas returns and Nige shines on!
Its a case of all change (again) as Scott Hunter sadly leaves us. We have greatly enjoyed the skill of Scott's drumming and his friendliness as a person. He is a great drummer and its sad that he has left us. He might guest for ocassionally in the future and we wish him well. Phildas has rejoined us at least for now and for the medium term. We are delighted to have her back. Her recent show at our first gig in Holland at T'Blok (Prog Frog) was a great success and her drum solo blew the roof off. She will be playing Charterhouse this year, which as always will be a very special show. Please book your tickets now from the gig page! Also tickets will be available very shortly at Guildford Tourist information! Nige and Howard are also getting together for some Peter Gabriel solo antics. Details to follow!

Nige Betteridge joins the Book of Genesis
Its a case of all change as Nige Betteridge joins the Book of Genesis on lead vocals in the role of Peter Gabriel (and Phil Collins of course). Nige is a drummer as well as a singer so we are looking forward to the possibilities that will bring to some of our future shows. Nige is well known around the Genesis tribute circuit as he has played in several other Genesis tribute bands in the past. He is a really great singer and is looking forward to all the costume wearing as we will be continuing our fully costumed performances as Genesis did them back in the 1970s! We think thats what makes that era of Genesis so special.

Mike leaves, a new singer to be appointed soon!
Sadly we have to say goodbye to Mike Morton who is leaving the band after 5 years with us to concentrate on his own original progressive rock band "The Gift". However Mike will still be welcome back (like Phildas) as a guest where necessary and we are in the process of auditioning some great candidates (additional auditionees welcome but be quick!). On behalf of the band members, and our audience we would like to thank Mike from our hearts for his passion in his performances which have taken what could have been an ordinary evening watching a tribute band into a real "happening" as Alan Reif put it at our show at Charterhouse a couple of weeks ago. The theatrical and costumed show will remain our hallmark and will be continued with our new singer and we have a number of exciting ideas for future shows in 2017. All planned shows still going ahead in 2016! Note that Mike Morton will play Oslo show.

Genesis Live, Live!
A big thankyou to Nic Wells (our original singer) who stood in for Mike Morton at the debut of our Genesis live show at the Good Intent pub. Nic got into the atmosphere and has his own take on the old man in Musical box complete with walking stick which gets jabbed at anyone who is not paying attention (in the band that is). Bob's acoustic bits were lovely as always. A fun and relaxed evening was had by all. We look forward to the next 2 shows at theatres in Southampton and Windlesham in Surrey.

Genesis Live, Live!
Preparations are well underway for a very exciting year for the Book of Genesis in 2016. We will recreate the look and feel of the Genesis Live album and perform the whole album live as it looked in 1973 (as far as the stage geometry allows!) with similar equipment. Our singer (Mike) will have the extra bass drum, our drummer (Scott) the original Gretsch kit, our keyboard player (Howard) a hammond and mellotron shell (with real Hammond and digital mellotron inside!) with a synth on top (just as Tony's gear looked) our guitarist (Bob) with his classic Les Paul and last but not least, out bass player (Kirk) with classic Rickenbacker replica double-neck, Taurus Moog bass pedal sounds and sundry guitars and basses! This show is going to be unmissable for connoisseurs of Genesis and new fans alike.

Charterhouse
Thankyou everyone who came along to see us at Charterhouse. It was a fantastic evening for us and that was thanks to you our audience. Thankyou to Ant Phillips for coming along to see us and Alan Reif for his great introduction to the show. Steve Hackett had planned to be at the show too but unfortunately couldn't make it at the last minute but you may see him at one of our future shows. Scott gave a wonderful performance as our new drummer and Mike surprised (even the band) when the red dress and foxes head appeared. Howard got such a shock he nearly stopped playing. We are playing the Tivoli theatre in Wimborne, Dorset this Saturday so a chance to see us in Dorset for the first time. In addition, we are delighted to announce that Phildas Bhakta our guest drummer will be joining us in London at the Half Moon in Putney on Sunday 28th June and we are looking forward to seeing her again.

Ant Phillips at Charterhouse and Steve Hackett also inviited
We are proud to announce that Ant Phillips, master of the 12 string sound that became one of the key hallmarks of the early Genesis sound is coming along to see our show at Charterhouse. Since leaving Genesis, Ant went on to record a large number of solo records the first of which "the Geese and the ghost" is on a special 40th anniversary release. In honour of this occasion, Howard has been learning a new Ant song for the show. Not only that but Steve Hackett has also been personally invited. Alan Reif (ex Charterhouse) will also be introducing the show as he has done previous shows. So all in all we will have some very special guests at the show.

Ramping up for Charterhouse
Rehearsals with our new drummer Scott are going well. We have some new songs to add for 2015 and are working hard. The next show is at O'Neill's which replaces the Riga in Southend. The venue is run by the same excellent team who used to run the Riga and we look forward to our first show there on Saturday May 2nd. With a bit of luck the weather will be nice and you can go to the beach first, then in the evening catch a bit of Genesis! What a nice way to spend your day? We are of course also preparing for our major gig at Charterhouse on May 30th which will feature some very special guests.

Scott Hunter in the next chapter of the Book
Our auditions are over and we have chosen our new drummer. It was a difficult choice because all of the auditionees were of a very high standard and we really appreciate how much effort they put into what was a difficult audition and we want to thank them all. The new drummer is Scott Hunter. You can read about him on our biogs page but we think he will work out great and we are excited to have him as part of our new team. Not only is he a great drummer, but a lovely guy and he has a Gretsch drum kit reminiscent of Phil Collins early 1970s drum kit. His first appearance with us will be in Plymouth at the Matchroom. A new venue for us.

Look to the future
So we have played our last show for now with our talented drummer Phildas who is returning to her native Switzerland. We will remain in touch and Phil is sure to be a special guest at future shows as she will remain one of the "family" of the Book of Genesis. We wish her well for the future and she is bound to be involved in some interesting musical projects in the future in the Eurozone....watch this space. We are sad to lose her, but looking to the future, we are auditioning a number of great drummers in the next couple of weeks and a replacement is imminent in time to get up to speed for next years shows which start in March 2015. We will be starting to add some new songs too for 2015 to keep interest for our regular fans whilst of course keeping some of the favourites. Some interesting venues for next year will include our first trips abroad.

Havant sell out
Thanks to everyone who came along to see us at Havant. The start of the show featured Mike's new UV makeup which made his eyes light up like Gabriel back in 1972! We have one more show this year at Basingstoke and that will be the last opportunity for a while to see Phildas play with us. After that we have a number of new drummers lined up to audition and we expect to have our replacement drummer in place well before the end of the year ready for next years' shows. Meanwhile we are going to keep in touch with Phildas who may on ocassion make guest appearances.

Phildas is gradually leaving
Phildas is returning to her home country of Switzerland at the end of the year. She will continue to play gigs with us till then and has agreed to support our shows till at least June 2015. We want to give a big thanks to Phildas for such a great time having her in the band. We have many happy memories of shows with us. However, all things change and we already have applicants for the position of replacement.

Sold out
Thanks to everyone who came along to the show at Reading which was an enjoyable show despite a few gremlins in the equipment and the first outing of a new character in our show. You will have to come to Havant or Basingstoke to see him! Basingstoke tickets are still available, Havant is now sold out. We are thinking of some extra goodies to do at theatres re special effects which we hope to develop. Also ideas for next years "tour theme" are being considered.

The Tropic with guests
Hi there. We just played a gig last Friday at that great venue "the Tropic at Ruislip", west of London. We knew that Phildas was away in Montreux at the jazz festival so we had enlisted the help of the wonderful Jeff Walker from G2. What a nice guy he is and a terrific drummer too. Just one rehearsal with him and we played the show. Mike's dad fell ill just a few days before the show and so after a flurry of txts and emails we enlisted help from the equally wonderful Jack Lipinski from Los Endos on vocals. Whilst Jack doesn't do the costumes like Mike, he does a great vocal rendition of the songs, a bit "Collins-like" and again a lovely guy. So we had representation from 3 Genesis tribute bands in one! We had a great evening and hope you did too. Prior to that we played the Riga where again our regular crowd I think enjoyed the show. Our next 3 shows are all theatres in Reading, Havant, and Basingstoke in that order (see gigs page) and for people from the North of England and Midlands, we haven't forgotten you and are trying to organise some additional dates as soon as possible. We have rebooked the Musician at Leicester you will see but hope to return to Leeds and other locations in the not too distant future!

Steve Hackett comes to the last Six of the Best show
Well we had a great guest at our last Six of the Best show when Steve Hackett turned up. He was very friendly and talked to fans in the break with his wife Jo. He seemed to enjoy the show and of course it was a great honour for us to have him there. I'm sure some of you will have been to one of his own Genesis Revisited shows. Our new livecam effect at the show went well and will now be a regular feature of our shows showing close ups of Firth of Fifth and other interesting solos! We are now thinking about the new set for 2014. Finally, just to let you know that the coffin we used for Rael's resurrection for the start of the shows will be donated to Charterhouse school theatrical department. Thanks again special effects man, Simon for building it, it was a fun part of the show.

This Saturday 16th Nov we will play our last six of the best show at the beautiful venue of St.Johns Church in Farncombe. We look forward to seeing you there! It should be a great show. We will be trying out a new special effect which is a livecam that will allow us to project close ups of solos onto our big screens.

Sincere apologies to fans in Leeds
Sincere apologies to all our fans in and around Leeds who turned up to see us last weekend. Howard got taken ill last minute (actually had to go into hospital for 3 days from the night before the show) and the show had to be rescheduled for 14th July. We really hope you will come back for that show where we will pull out all the stops (not just on Howard's organ) to ensure it is a fantastic evening! Thanks to both fans and the organisers (John in particular) for being so understanding.

Chris Stewart to be no.6 in Spain
Chris Stewart the original Genesis drummer and founder member will be introducing our show in Granada, Spain. Howard met Chris recently in Granada and spent a lovely evening with Chris, his wife Ana and friends Gloria and Richard. Chris is now a succesful writer and his book "Driving over lemons" is well worth a read (as are the others!). In fact, once started, you won't want to put it down. The show in Granada will be a unique evening of Genesis music and will include all the costumes, acting and slideshows that we are known for. We believe there is quite a big Genesis following in Spain so we are looking forward to that show which is in the beautiful Isabela Theatre in the centre of town.

First Six of the best show
Last weekend we played our first six of the best show at the Riga. We had a wonderful audience and Mike emerged from his coffin (as Gabriel did in the original show). Our friendly Nosferatu was on hand to open it for him. After "Back in NYC" Mike did a quick change into his brand new Brittania outfit which was fun. Then we went through the set, and found time to add four extra songs at the end of the Six of the Best set. We hope you will join us dancing out with the moonlit knight in Newcastle in March.

Six of the best
For 2013 we are delighted to announce that we will be re-enacting the six of the best show at various venues including Charterhouse. We have lined up some very special guests for some of these shows. You will see on our pictures page that Mike our singer got to meet Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Steve Hackett for a chat at the prog rock awards recently where Genesis won the lifetime achievement award (we are all a bit jealous as you can imagine). Mike got to go due to the new CD from his original progresssive rock band "The Gift", (a band which now features most of the Book of Genesis) and who will also be hopefully playing some shows in 2013.

Kirk gets a Rickenbacker-ish
Kirk has bought himself an amazing Rickenbacker copy 12 string and 4 string Bass. This twin neck guitar has been built up with nearly all of the parts genuine Rickenbacker. It should make a big difference to Kirks' guitar sound particularly but he says it also has a great bass sound. In addition he won't need to swap guitars so often during songs, which reduces his stress a little. As someone who has to play guitar, bass, bass pedals and sing backing, this is music to his ears. Catch us at Leeds or London at our next 2 gigs to see Kirk in action with it! We will also hopefully post a little clip on our youtube channel from next weeks' rehearsal.

Mike meets a couple of familiar faces
Mike was at the prog rock awards (representing his other band "the Gift") and he met Genesis who were there receiving the lifetime achievement award. Mike, Tony and Steve were very friendly according to Mike. Anyway, checkout our pictures to see a couple of Mike with "the guys" apologies for the quality, they were taken on Mike's phone camera. Believe it or not, these pictures are courtesy of Fish who was also there!

New shows and new songs
We are in the process of booking up some new shows for the end of this year and next year. We hope to have some nice dates around the country. In addition we are going to be adding a few new songs to our set list. We recognise that when people come to see us and enjoy the show, we hope they come back again but of course if they see the same show after a while it can get boring for some! Whilst retaining a core of "the classics" that people expect, we will vary some of the songs for interest. In addition to the Genesis reportoire we will often also put in something unusual in a set such as a song by Anthony Phillips or Peter Gabriel or Steve Hackett, Anyway love to hear from you and see you at our future gigs. Hope to have some new show dates very soon.

A massive thankyou to everyone who came to see us at Charterhouse. It was a fantastic evening for us and we hope for all of you. A special thankyou to our three special guests, ex Charterhouse pupils; Alan Reif (friend of the band), Richard MacPhail (singer from the Anon and "sound friend" in early Genesis and Peter Gabriel) and of course Anthony Phillips. Thanks also to Mitch Broomhead (Stage manager at Charterhouse), Vince (sound), Ryan and Liam (lighting) and the many other people who made this event happen.

Howard's "how to get the Banks sound" video
We've added a little video to our Demo (videos) website which shows Howard, with his 4 main keyboards set up, demonstrating how he gets the Tony Banks sounds from modern equipment. Whilst owning and using the vintage equipment that Tony used in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s is desirable, some of this equipment, particularly from the 1970s, is expensive to purchase (and in some cases extremely so), hard to find, and hard to maintain. Heavy Hammond organs, Mellotrons which can have damaged tape frames that don't work, ARP Pro-soloists with sounds that don't work, and mechanical problems on an Hohner Pianet piano, all make the maintenance of such instruments quite a challenge. To make it even more difficult, Tony had and/or made some customisations, so even if you got hold of genuine equipment, it wouldn't be enough to get the sound 'just right'. However, thankfully there are now some excellent alternatives that don't have to break the 'bank' (if you'll pardon the pun)!

Bob and Howard's new toys
Bob has a new Gibson Les Paul Guitar for Christmas. This is going to give the great authentic look and feel of the Genesis classic guitar sound that Steve Hackett was so famous for. Howard has also had a little bundle for Christmas (actually two). The first is his new son Benjamin (and before you say anything, he didn't realise that Tony Banks' son is also called Benjamin, this is a coincidence honest. The second is Howard has bought himself a Memotron (rack module). This gives the ultimate modern-equivalent Mellotron sounds (the classic choirs, strings, brass at the end of Suppers Ready, and the "Watcher of the skies" sound which is actually 3 sounds; a Bass Accordion in the left hand would you believe and strings and brass combined in the right. For those interested, you can buy a Memotron that is built into a keyboard. However Banks himself had a Mellotron with a split section that was actually two mellotrons in one. This enabled Tony to play a different sounds on the left hand than the right. With the wonders of MIDI and configuration of the Memotron, this can be emulated now on a modern keyboard. You can look forward to even better sounds on stage from us in 2012 and we are really looking forward to playing them for you.

Phildas joins us
The Book of Genesis are excited that The Orange Turbaned Drummer (Phildas Bhakta) is joining us on drums. Phildas needs no introduction to the Genesis tribute scene as she has played with many great tribute bands over the last 10 years including "The Watch" (top Italian tribute) and as a guest in "In the Cage". She was also the founder member of Invisible Touch who were one of the early Genesis tribute bands and has played on a recent album featuring John Hackett on flute (Steve Hackett's brother) .

Andy leaves us
Andy started the Book of Genesis with Howard and Russell Laverick in the original lineup with a view to covering all of the eras of Genesis. The band has moved through several lineup changes over the years. With the more recent shift in direction of the Book of Genesis to focus on the Progressive rock era of the band, Andy has left the current lineup but has started another Genesis tribute band to cover the later Collins era but with some tracks for the Gabriel era fans too.

His new line up is almost complete and will soon be in the studio preparing for a 2012 appearance. For more info you can email Andy on a_daish@me.com. His website will soon be up and running and we will provide a mutual link between our websites. We wish Andy the best of luck in his next chapter of the Book of Genesis. We would like to thank Andy for the hard work he has put into the band over the years and we wish him well. We will miss his unique sense of humour.

Charterhouse
The Book of Genesis are delighted to announce that we will be playing a special charity concert for the "Help for Heroes" charity at Charterhouse at the school's theatre. This will be held around end March beginning April 2012 (date to be confirmed very soon).

The show will be a full theatrical performance of the best of the Gabriel era and also feature some of the Collins era best songs too. Seats are limited. Tickets will officially go on sale soon but can be pre-reserved by emailing this website.

Don't miss a chance to walk the paths of Charterhouse and soak in the atmosphere of the school where the young Genesis band first joined up from "The Anon" and "The Garden Wall".
