Howard Boder on recreating Tony Banks sounds for Can Utility and the Coastliners
Howard demonstrates a full range of classic sounds in The Lamia
A grade 8 pianist, keyboard virtuoso and 12 string guitarist, whose studied reconstruction of the legendary Tony Banks wows audiences and band members alike!
There are very few people who can competantly take on the huge challenge of reproducing the dexterity and soundcraft that we take for granted with Tony Banks. Howard does this with passionate obsession even down to capturing the occasional ‘crushed notes’ that can be heard in certain original live Genesis performances. His YouTube video on recreating the sounds of Tony Banks has had over 25,000 hits.
It is also rare to find a Genesis tribute act featuring a 12 string guitar playing keyboardist. This adds a significant sense of authenticity to tracks such as The Musical Box, Supper’s ready and Cinema Show.
Favourite Genesis tracks: Fountain of Salmacis and Supper’s Ready
Influences include: Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Mike Oldfield, Rush, Gentle Giant, Nick Drake, Van der Graaf Generator, The Enid, Focus, Robert Fripp. Steve Hackett, Porcupine Tree, The Flower Kings and IQ.
