About Russ

“Recreating the energy of early Phil Collins performances and achieving technical accuracy.”

Russ used to play along with his trusty cassette of ‘Seconds Out’ from the age of 13, on his Gretsch replica drum kit. Due to the influence of this album, he had a drum lesson with Bill Bruford a couple of years later. The budding young drummer was lucky enough to meet Phil Collins and Steve Hackett at the age of 16, which made a huge impression on him.

Russ also met a member of the Genesis road crew in 1981 who gave him a set of Octobans (tube drums) owned by Phil Collins. These had been made by the road crew out of drainpipes for Phil to try. Apparently his response was “They’re great – now get me a real set!” Russ still owns them!

Russ has worked with Ultimate Elton and The Rocket Band, Curfew, Fragile and Claire Hamill, Owen Paul, Vienna Circle and Tantalus among others. Has recorded with Producers – Stuart Epps, Lee Groves and George Shilling.

He saw Genesis on the Duke, Abacab and 2007 Reunion tours.

Favourite Genesis Songs – Blood on the Rooftops and Firth of Fifth.
Influences – Phil Collins, Bill Bruford, Steve Smith and Neil Peart
