The Plaza Theatre
The Plaza was saved and renovated by Romsey Amateur Dramatic Society and re-opened as a theatre on 3rd January 1984 by Lord Romsey. It had been a cinema, then a bingo hall and very nearly became a guest house! Romsey is very proud to have its own theatre, and helped raise the £140,000 needed.
It costs about £40 a day to run the building so buying a ticket to see us will contribute to meeting these costs. The charming small foyer is the box office and refreshments stall. On each side a flight of stairs leading up to what was once the old “circle”. Look up at the enormous light towering overhead and the delicate glass emergency lights. They all date back to 1931 when the Plaza was built.
Land of Hope and Glory
You could just imagine a rousing version of Land of Hope and Glory in this atmospheric theatre, so we’ll provide the lovely Britannia, just for you!
Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the early songs of the influential progressive rock band Genesis, with leading UK tribute band The Book Of Genesis , who faithfully recreate the 1970s era comeplete with period musical instruments, fabulous costumes, an animated slide show, and atmospheric synchronised lighting in a packed 3 hour show.
Returning to the Plaza after an amazingly well attended show in 2018 is only eclipsed by the knowledge that you will enjoy an even more special performance following an incredibly successful year in the UK (including Charterhouse School – where Genesis formed) , and in the Netherlands.
